Tarley Takes The Color Run

So I've been saying for a while, mainly to myself, that something has gotta change. After a year of living, working and eating my way through New York, I desperately need to focus on my health and wellbeing. On the cusp of Spring, I'm having my own awakening.

But I need a goal. Something that's not too far away to give me something to focus on. For some people it's a wedding, for other people it's a marathon. I found mine in The Color Run, or what's dubbed as the "happiest 5k on the planet".

On May 31, The Color Run hits Queens - my home borough in New York City. And this my goal.

To run 5 kms in 10 weeks.

I've never been able to get excited by running. As such I've never considered myself to be a runner. Probably because since high school I haven't been able to run more than one kilometre at a time - even at my fittest.

But, I love colour. Colour makes me happy. And I can get excited about running, dancing, and playing around a 5k track and being doused with colourful paint.

So my 5k adventure starts here, and ends with a very colorful rainbow.

I need all the help I can get. So please, keep me accountable, keep me inspired and help me reach my goal by sending me love and good wishes!

- Notes on the Color Run-

  • If you want to run with me in Queens, NY on May 31 or in Brooklyn on July 5, save $10 with this code: COLORNYC
  • The Color Run is GLOBAL and has runs in 30+ countries - yes, even Australia - find your city and country here to train with me
  • More than half of the Color Run's participants are first-time 5k runners, like me. No need to be scared off by 'the professionals' - everyone is there to have fun!
  • You start wearing white and finish plastered in color - what's not to love about that?

Hello, Nashville!

Spotted at Nashville International Airport - man with cowboy boots and guitar.

I'm definitely in the country music capital of the world.

Using Instagram's Nashville filter for good measure.

Celebrate Down Under Culture at the Brooklyn Night Bazaar Sat Feb 1st

Brooklyn Night Bazaar have brought the fun, food and flair of New York's summer open-air markets indoors for the winter season - and they are doing a cracking good job.

On Saturday February 1st, 2014, they will go 'Down Under' for the very first time with a New Zealand theme and as a loud and proud Kiwi-lover and fellow ANZAC, I am super excited.

Here are some of the Down Under magic that will be about the market on Saturday:

- Sweet treats like pavlova, caramel slice and lamingtons by Waltzing Matilda's baked by the super sweet Laura Forer

DUB (Down Under Bakery) Pies will be launching New York's very first savoury #pietruck - which is also a pretty cool Kickstarter success story

- Steinlager beer - I'm no beer drinker but apparently this Kiwi beer is pretty darn good

- Gig by NZ band Streets of Laredo who quite possibly the next big thing

Entry is free, but you can skip the queue by pre-purchasing your ticket, which will also get you a DUB pie, coffee (flat white I suppose?) and maybe even a beer if you get there early enough! Worth it, I reckon!

Hope to see you there!

CASE STUDY: Producing New York's Small Business Awards

Earlier this week NYER announced the 2013 finalists for the Small Business Awards - the only program that recognizes entrepreneurs and business owners in the New York and tri-state area.

When I was Marketing Manager at NYER, the 2012 Small Business Awards was one of my first big projects, and I really was thrown in the deep end, joining just 2 months before the gala awards ceremony! The case study summarizes my involvement in this fantastic program.

For a taste of the energy and comraderie that fills the room of the gala award ceremony, take a squiz at this highlights reel from the event I produced on October 10 2012, in Manhattan, which is referred to by many as "the networking event of the year".

Yoga For The Senses

AWNY Yoga in Central Park, led by Natalie Warner. Photo courtesy of inFORM Yoga.

I've done yoga off and on for a few years now in a variety of places and spaces. Gyms, studios, smelly heated rooms, with carpet, with wooden floors, the rustic, then glam, the simple and in cities like Sydney, Byron Bay and New York. One thing I had never done, until recently was yoga in the outdoors. And not just any patch of grass, mind you. In New York's Central Park.

New York, or....

After living in New York for over one year, I often wonder when and if I will ever leave. Tonight I watched the first episode of the TV series Felicity on Netflix and this quote by Scott Foley's character Noel Crane made me smile.

Stay in New York, or perish.
