Map: Aussie & Kiwi Businesses in New York City

One of the things I love about living in New York is the access to food from so many cultures and ethnicities, including my own.

To keep track of all of of my antipodean faves, I created this nifty little Google Map.

Let me know in the comments below if I am missing any!

Celebrate Down Under Culture at the Brooklyn Night Bazaar Sat Feb 1st

Brooklyn Night Bazaar have brought the fun, food and flair of New York's summer open-air markets indoors for the winter season - and they are doing a cracking good job.

On Saturday February 1st, 2014, they will go 'Down Under' for the very first time with a New Zealand theme and as a loud and proud Kiwi-lover and fellow ANZAC, I am super excited.

Here are some of the Down Under magic that will be about the market on Saturday:

- Sweet treats like pavlova, caramel slice and lamingtons by Waltzing Matilda's baked by the super sweet Laura Forer

DUB (Down Under Bakery) Pies will be launching New York's very first savoury #pietruck - which is also a pretty cool Kickstarter success story

- Steinlager beer - I'm no beer drinker but apparently this Kiwi beer is pretty darn good

- Gig by NZ band Streets of Laredo who quite possibly the next big thing

Entry is free, but you can skip the queue by pre-purchasing your ticket, which will also get you a DUB pie, coffee (flat white I suppose?) and maybe even a beer if you get there early enough! Worth it, I reckon!

Yoga For The Senses

AWNY Yoga in Central Park, led by Natalie Warner. Photo courtesy of inFORM Yoga.

I've done yoga off and on for a few years now in a variety of places and spaces. Gyms, studios, smelly heated rooms, with carpet, with wooden floors, the rustic, then glam, the simple and in cities like Sydney, Byron Bay and New York. One thing I had never done, until recently was yoga in the outdoors. And not just any patch of grass, mind you. In New York's Central Park.

The GPS Girl Sings Her Heart Out, Taking Us On A Little Drive

Karen Jacobsen, The GPS Girl on stage at the launch of her new album at Joe's Pub in New York.

Only a week after arriving in New York City, in May 2012, I shared an elevator with The GPS Girl where she helped me find my way to my first AWNY networking event. Little did I know, that Karen Jacobsen is very good at giving directions - she is The GPS Girl and the voice of Australian Karen in millions of GPS units worldwide, and now also the Ausralian female voice in Siri on your iPhone or iPod Touch. This makes her an incredible well recognised voice artist, but as you will discover, she does so much more.

Morning Is Where The Truth Is, an exhibition by Nadia Ackerman

Nadia Ackerman amongst the works which form the exhibition "The Morning Where The Truth Is"

I am not an art critic, but I do know what I love, and what visual arts I appreciate. A true highlight of my week, I attend the exhibition opening of a collection of illustrations by Nadia Ackerman (who is also a fellow Aussie living in New York).

I found the exhibition quite inspiring and wanted to share the beautiful and whimsical drawings with you. I loved seeing how Nadia’s ideas and imagination comes to life in her work and what I learnt was how these innocent, childlike pictures have much deeper personal meanings.
